Solar Dehydrator Solar dehydrators are simple to make. You simply build a box with shelves or for racks. Then you install a glass lid to prevent insects from entering the dehydrator. Many of the solar dehydrators have a panel near the base that is a few inches hollow and painted black to absorb sunlight. The vertical top of the panel is put into the main dehydrator box. The added panel adds more air flow and heat to the box. Solar dehydration can be done without any home made device. For centuries people used dehydration simply by hanging out the meat on hot summer days. The temperature and air flow will make the largest difference. In any case, it’s nice to go green when you can. |
